Our Philosphy
Muru (‘muru: the Estonian word for ‘grass’) is a floral studio inspired by the effortless charm of the meadow—designs that feel as though they were gathered by hand rather than manufactured.
We don’t believe in forcing nature; we work in rhythm with it. By partnering with local farms and fair-trade suppliers, we prioritize the magic of the seasons. There is a profound beauty in choosing seasonal flowers: they become a living calendar of your most important moments. When those same flowers reappear year after year they serve as a perennial reminder of your day and the memories made.
Behind the Blooms
In the summer of 2015 two roommates living in the heart of downtown Toronto (Queen and Spadina, iykyk) spent their free time finding whatever flowers they could find and reimagining their small, sun-drenched apartment with botanical creativity. What began as a shared obsession with bringing nature into their urban home has since evolved into a professional partnership. Building on their artistic and cultural roots—they created Muru knowing flowers have the power to transform the atmosphere of a room and the spirit of the people in it.
Chloe Evert
Lead Designer & Creative Director
Chloe’s professional arts background began after eight years of fine arts and design study, culminating in a Bachelor of Design specializing in Illustration. She blends ten years of illustration and design experience with a six-year background in floristry, having refined her craft in established studios and as a freelancer. She finds many parallels between illustration and floristry; taking the same design foundations of colour theory, composition, line quality, balance, and more to create living art full of meaning and whimsy.
Ivanka Hiltschuk
Event Specialist & Lead of Operations
With 10+ years of operational management and special events fundraising, Ivanka anchors the studio with her passion for event planning and logistics, but her heart beats with the same artistic pulse as Chloe’s. She doesn’t just see a timeline or a floor plan; she see’s movement of a room and the way a guest interacts with a space. This shared artistic sensitivity ensures that every logistical decision is made through a creative lens—balancing the precision of a planner with the soul of a designer so floral installations feel both effortless and intentional.
A Note on Sustainability
We believe in leaving the grass as beautiful as we found it. We are deeply committed to the messy, essential work of sustainable floristry—from experimenting with compostable mechanics to sourcing local stems and ditching harsh dyes. We aren’t perfect, but we are dedicated to an ongoing education in how to do better within an industry that doesn't always make it easy.
While we strive to bring your specific vision to life, nature occasionally offers its own path. We see the shift in seasonal availability not as a limitation, but as a creative invitation. We ask for your trust in our illustrative eye to select the finest, most responsible alternatives should a specific bloom be out of reach.
